Ingredients

  • Bread Dough - enough for one large loaf {store bought or homemade}
  • 250 g Bacon Bits
  • 2 Onions, sliced
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, sliced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper, sliced
  • 4 t Garlic, crushed
  • 1 t Italian Herbs
  • 250 g Thinly Sliced Deli Ham
  • 2 cups Mozzarella, grated
  • 1 Egg, beaten lightly
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan, grated finely
  • 1. ) Pre-Heat the oven to 180 deg C (350 deg F) - line a baking sheet with baking paper.
  • 2. ) Cook the Bacon Bits until done and slightly crispy - remove from pan but retain fat.
  • 3. ) Saute the Onion, both Bell Peppers and Garlic, in the retained pan fat until soft - add the Italian Herbs and cook another minute - remove from heat and let cool.
  • 4. ) Roll out the Bread Dough in a rectangular shape - sprinkle half the Mozzarella over the dough followed by the cooked Bacon - scoop the Onion mixture evenly over the Bacon - scatter the Ham over and end with the remaining half Mozzarella.
  • 5. ) Start rolling up the dough - lengthwise - place on the lined baking sheet - brush with the beaten Egg and leave to rise for 30 minutes.
  • 6. ) Bake 30 - 35 minutes or until done - remove from the oven - sprinkle with the Parmesan and return to the oven for another 5 minutes.
  • 7. ) Remove the Stromboli from the oven - leave to rest for 10 minutes before slicing into thick slices.
